The U.S. House of Representatives will soon vote on H.R. 7, the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act, which would prevent all federal programs from funding abortion and abortion coverage on a permanent basis.  This would place in permanent law the policy that has been embodied in the Hyde amendment for decades. For over 35 years, there has been strong bipartisan Congressional agreement that the federal government should not use its funding power to support or promote abortion.

Richard Doerflinger, Associate Director of the USCCB Secretariat of Pro Life Activities, said in Congressional testimony, "Recent developments underscore a need to correct the abortion funding problems in the Affordable Care Act. ... H.R. 7 would prevent problems and confusion on abortion funding in future legislation."
