Dear Father:

This weekend marks the 40th anniversary of Catholic School Week here in the United States.  This year's theme is Catholic Schools: Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service.
The National Catholic Education Association (NCEA) has a very short two-minute video that will give you tips that you can incorporate either during your homily or during the announcement time.  To view this video click here for the link.
The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) has also put together a tool kit filled with facts and information about our Catholic schools across the country.  Click here to view.
I'm also providing you with some key talking points for pastors here in Yakima County with regards to our very fine La Salle High School.  If you are in the Tri-Cities area, some of these talking points would apply to Tri-Cities Prep as well.  Click below to read.
You might also consider including prayers for Catholic schools as well as Catholic educators as part of the General Intercessions.
I realize that with only 6 grade schools and two high schools serving our Diocese that your parish may be distant from any Catholic school.  But – and this is key – chances are that many of your parishioners DID attend a Catholic school at some point in their lives. Thus I do hope this weekend you'll consider uplifting the ministry of Catholic schools here in the Diocese of Yakima.
Many Blessings!
