Dear Friends:

No doubt you've read about the terrible devastation of Vietnam and the Philippines due to this week's typhoon. Here's another option for you to consider: Simbang Gabi!  It's the Tagalog phrase that means "End of Night" and it refers to the upcoming arrival of Christ – the light of the world. Simbang Gabi corresponds to the novena of masses in parts of Mexico and Spain called Misas del Gallo. Here in the Diocese of Yakima we just have one Mass of Simbang Gabi, on Saturday, December 21, at 7 p.m. at St. Peter Claver Church in Wapato. The collection for this Mass will go to Catholic Relief Services to aid in reconstruction of parish churches as well as humanitarian relief for those affected by the typhoon. So I hope you save the date and join us for a beautiful liturgy with a particular mission this year as we welcome the Christ Child.  A reception will follow the Mass in the Filipino Community Hall in Wapato.
