Dear Friends:

As bishop of Yakima it is such a great privilege to see the work of Catholic Charities agencies and programs across Central Washington.  About two weeks ago, the board of trustees and I visited our St. Vincent Center in Ellensburg, our housing development, St. Martha Plaza in George and our Catholic Family & Child Service office in Wenatchee.  I received the following communication from John Young, who leads Catholic Charities so I thought I'd pass it on to you:

"As you are all aware, there are many great examples of how our agencies transform lives every day through our  35 service locations in the Diocese of Yakima.  I wanted to highlight how Catholic Charities Housing Services (CCHS) "builds communities"....literally.

CCHS got some great coverage for their work in Mabton, where 60 volunteers turned out on Friday in spite of the weather to lay sod and plant trees in the new Mabton Park which CCHS will give to the City of Mabton.  The new park is next to New Life Villa, our 36-unit multi-family workforce housing development and New Life Homes, our 30-home subdivision for first-time homebuyers.

See the following links for great coverage:

Also, don't forget about the CFCS Tri Cities 25th Anniversay Auction/Gala coming up on Saturday evening, May 19, 2012 at the TRAC in Pasco, and the CFCS Yakima Festival Flowers Garden Gala on Saturday evening, June 16, 2012 at the Holy Family Gathering Hall in Yakima.  Let me know if you'd like tickets!

Thank you for your generous support of our work,

John L. Young, MSW
President and CEO
