Protect Vetted Syrian and Iraqi Refugees

Last November, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 4038, The American Security against Foreign Enemies (SAFE) Act, which would effectively halt all resettlement of Syrian and Iraqi refugees in the United States for a protracted time. On Wednesday, January 20, 2016 the legislation will be voted on in the U.S. Senate.

The U.S. has always been a haven for the world’s refugees and the Catholic Church plays a large role in that welcome. The U.S. has an 18-24 month investigation process that includes biometric checks, forensic testing, medical screenings and rigorous in-person interviews before resettling refugees. Welcoming refugees is the American way and an important part of our Catholic tradition.
