Here's just a few links as you work with parishioners and parish leaders catechetically on the recent Supreme Court decision mandating a change in the definition of marriage for all 50 states.
First, since this is a national issue, I think it's best to refer to the national response from Archbishop Joseph Kurtz, the president of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. Click here
Second, since Washington State already voted in favor of the redefinition of marriage, here is the direct link to my pastoral letter that was read and distributed in Spanish and English across the Diocese of Yakima.  Click here to read.
Third, here is an interview that Archbishop Kurtz gave to the Catholic newspaper, Our Sunday Visitor which might be a good resource for review:  Click here to read.
Let us remember the words of Pope Saint John Paul the Second who noted in Porta Fidei #15: "What the world is in particular need of today is the credible witness of people enlightened in mind and heart by the word of the Lord, and capable of opening the hearts and minds of many to the desire for God and for true life, life without end."
