St. Luke tells the story of a man who once gave a great dinner and invited many to attend. The preparations for the dinner were lavish. On the night of the dinner, a servant was dispatched to hand deliver the invitations. Sadly one by one the people who were invited send their excuses. One had just purchased a new parcel of land, another was involved in a business

deal and yet another had family obligations. Though deeply disappointed, the man was determined to proceed with his dinner. He sent his servant back out with orders to gather up all those who had never been invited to anything and bring back to fill his table.

And so it is with God’s Church. As members of the Body of Christ in the Diocese of Yakima, we are many and very diverse and God invites us all to His table. He does, however, ask something of us in return. By His grace, we have each been given the ability to do certain things well. Some of us run businesses, while others teach. Some of us build houses, while others brighten the world with a smile. Nowhere is there such a diversity of gifts more evident than here in the Diocese of Yakima where our individual gifts form a collective diocesan treasure. In inviting us to His table, God asks that we each bring the gifts He has given us and offer them to His service by serving each other.
