Help Protect Poor and Vulnerable Working Families

Congress must pass funding for the federal budget before December 11 in order to avoid a government shutdown. Millions of poor and vulnerable families are at risk. You can help them. Working family tax credits protect millions of children from poverty every year. Taken together, the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Child Tax Credit (CTC) are some of the most effective child antipoverty measure the federal government has. Last year alone they helped to lift over five million children out of poverty.

The Catholic Bishops of the United States strongly support the EITC and CTC because, in addition to reducing poverty, they also promote work and family stability. Research shows that these supports for working parents also improve the school performance and physical health of their children. If Congress does not act, critical expansions made to the EITC and CTC will expire soon, pushing millions of people into or deeper into poverty.

Click here to send a message to your Senators and Representative and urge them to permanently extend the EITC and CTC programs.
